Cold Brew at Home

❄️ Cold Brew, Your Way

Smooth, refreshing coffee for hot days and slow mornings.

Unlike iced coffee—which starts hot and cools down—cold brew is brewed cold from the start. That long, low-temp steep brings out a smooth, mellow flavor with less acidity and bitterness. It’s easy to make, forgiving to brew, and perfect for warm weather sipping.

Let’s dive in.

🧪 Tested & Tasted: Our Three Cold Brew Methods

We tried three ways of brewing cold brew at home:

  1. Steeping loose grounds
  2. Steeping grounds in a filter bag
  3. Steeping in a French press

They all work—but we found the loose grounds method brought the best flavor with minimal fuss. It delivers a fuller extraction and doesn’t require specialty gear (just cheesecloth and a strainer). Here’s how.

🥶 Cold Brew Concentrate Recipe (1:4 Ratio)

You’ll need:

  • 1 cup coarsely ground coffee
  • 4 cups room-temp water
  • Large container with lid
  • Cheesecloth + strainer
  • A second container or pitcher
  • Time (6–24 hours, depending on how you steep)

Instructions:

  1. Add coffee + water to your container
  2. Stir well to fully soak the grounds
  3. Cover and let steep:
    • 6–8 hours at room temperature, or
    • 20–24 hours in the fridge
  4. Line your strainer with cheesecloth (2 layers)
  5. Pour the steeped coffee through the filter into your clean pitcher
  6. Cover and refrigerate your cold brew concentrate

🧊 How to Serve It

This is a concentrate, so you can:

  • Serve over ice, undiluted for a strong, full-flavored glass
  • Dilute 1:1 with water or milk for something lighter

Either way, it’s smooth and easy-drinking—no bitterness, just flavor.

Your batch will stay fresh in the fridge for up to two weeks.

🏕️ What About Other Methods?

French Press: Great option, but you're limited by the size of your press.

Bagged Grounds: Easy cleanup, but we found they compress and float, leading to uneven flavor.

Loose Grounds (Winner): Maximum surface area = better extraction and balanced results.
