At Cairn Coffee Roasters, we believe great coffee should leave a light footprint. That’s why we’ve chosen packaging that balances freshness, accessibility, and environmental care—so your morning ritual can be both satisfying and sustainable.
🛍️ Recyclable Packaging for Everyday Sippers
Our 12 oz and 2 lb coffee bags are made from LDPE #4 plastic, which is 100% recyclable through most grocery store drop-off programs—the same bins used for plastic shopping bags.
How to recycle your bag:
- Empty and clean the bag (a quick shake or rinse)
- Drop it in a thin plastic recycling bin at your local grocery or retailer
- That’s it—you’ve kept one more thing out of the landfill

📦 What About Our 5 lb Bags?
We’re proud of the progress we’ve made—but we’re not all the way there yet. Our 5 lb bags are not currently recyclable, due to material limitations from our supplier. These bags are designed for durability and freshness, especially for wholesale and high-volume customers, but we know there’s room for improvement.
We’re actively exploring better options and will update our packaging as soon as a recyclable or compostable 5 lb solution meets our quality standards.
🌱 Why Not Compostable Bags?
We’ve tested compostable options, but most require industrial composting facilities—which many customers don’t have access to. Others don’t preserve freshness as well, especially for longer storage or shipping.
By choosing recyclable LDPE for our smaller bags, we’ve found a solution that:
- Protects the flavor and shelf life of your coffee
- Works with existing recycling infrastructure
- Reduces waste in a way that’s practical and scalable
